CCA BLOG POST TERM 4 WEEK 3

For futsal, I felt I was improved little bit. My passes were connected and I scored once. Teamwork was so awesome. However I also missed one shot. I think I need to practice how to shoot the ball.
We got a new music in concert band again. It was beautiful. I could listen some popular melodies in middle of the piece. I really enjoyed playing it.
I got improved little at badminton. I’ve figured out how to hit the ball properly but I still need to improve more.

English – Parvana

Chapter One

How has Taliban-rule affected life in Afghanistan? Consider:

Taliban literally banned women’s freedom. Women can’t go out without permission from a man. They should not show their skin so they have to use a clothe to cover their whole body. Also the wars made Afghanistan’s life poor. War destroyed most of the things and people get arrested frequently. In addition, children can’t take proper education. Taliban has banned all the books that people have.

What have we learnt about the life of Parvana and her family?

They don’t have freedom.

What voice is the story written in? From whose point of view is the story told?

Third person’s view.

Chapter Two

Copy and complete this chart about Parvana’s family:

Read the story that Parvana’s father tells about Malali (pg. 29-31). What purpose does Parvana’s father have for telling this story?

He wanted to encourage Parvana. Father wanted her to realise that she is brave herself.

What is the significance of Parvana’s father calling Parvana “my Malali” as the Taliban drags him out of the house (pg. 33)?

Parvana is brave. Father believes she can take care of her family and lead them. Father wanted to tell it to Parvana.

What does this chapter (and in particular, the story of Malali) indicate about power and authority?

The power of courage.

Parvana’s father says, “there are many types of battles.” What does he mean by this? What does this say about power and authority?

Wars usually happen caused by authority.

Chapter Three

What do we learn about the Taliban on pg 40? How does this challenge our ideas of power and authority?

Taliban has been really strict to women. Parvana is trying to resist to Taliban’s strict rules.

Parvana and her mother take a photograph of her father with them as they search for him. What does this photo represent in the life of Afghanistan people (pg 42)? What happens to the photograph at the end of the chapter?

It represents the hope of freedom. The photo got torn.

What is the significance of the last lines of the chapter? What does it communicate about the idea of strength?

They failed to bring back their father. They can’t resist the Taliban yet.

CCA BLOG POST TERM 4 WEEK 2

This week was the first week for the CCAs. It’d been a long time since I actually played a sport before, so I did a horrible job in futsal. My passes were not bad as my shots. The passes were well connected and every time when I got the ball, I missed the chance to score.
Concert band went pretty well. Teacher gave us a new music ‘Christmas Eve’ which is fun. This piece has awesome trombone part. The harmony parts were good as well.
I’ve played with my friend. He is really good so I could learn so much from him. I also played with a senior. I lost.

CCA BLOG POST TERM 4 WEEK 1

For this term I’ve signed up for badminton, futsal and concert band. For this term, I wanted to focus on the CCA’s that I like to do. I really wanted to improve my badminton skills since I saw one of my friend playing badminton very well. On the day that I have badminton CCA, I play with the friend I mentioned so I can improve well.
Since I came this school, I keep joining for futsal CCA. I just love it but unfortunately, I am not good at sport so I’m bad at futsal. At least I enjoy it.
Soccer and concert band are at the same time. Because I already joined a ball sport, I chose concert band. I can say I’m good at music. In Korea, I used to be in an orchestra. I play trombone in the band. I like my instrument and I enjoy to play it in the band.

English ibook reflection

1. What did you enjoy about this task?

It was interesting to research about a country in poverty. The country I chose was Somalia. Somalia is well know for poverty. I could find out about the many causes of poverty they suffered. And then we made the informations into a book. Those are what I enjoyed about this task.

2. What didn’t you enjoy?

I enjoyed making the information into the book but also it hard difficult as well. I’ve never used the application we used to make a book before. So I spent some times to find out how to use the application properly.

3. What did you learn?

I learned how to use ibook author application.

4. How would you change this unit if you were Ms Sam for the next year?

I would give more time to work on and let them work on google docs which is much easier.

5. Any other comments?

We worked individually. It would’ve been better if we worked as group work.

CCA blog post 1

I’ve signed up for Chess, Korean Mask Dance, Futsal and Concert band. I don’t play Chess very well but I know the rules. Chess needs a lot of concentrations. Therefore as I play chess, I can improve concentrating effectively. I’m forced to sign up for the Korean Mask Dance. Koreans were preparing something to perform at the ‘Pejatan Performance’ and they chose Mask Dance. All Korean students under Y11 had to sign up and so do I. Mask Dance is a traditional dance that our ancestors created. This CCA gave us a chance to experience our ancestors dance. I am really grateful about that but I actually didn’t want it. Next is futsal. I’ve never stopped signing up for futsal CCA since I came this school. I can improve partnership and train skills. And I love futsal. Soccer and Concert band are in the same day and same time. I love soccer and I love orchestra as well. I’ve done soccer last term so I signed up for the concert band CCA that I’ve never experienced in this school. I can play trombone and piano. I am sure that I can make the band nicer.

English HW Poverty

Child Poverty – is more than just a lack of income, it’s about being denied opportunities to live a long and health life.

Imagine living in a place where you did not have access to clean working water to drink or a toilet that works.  Imagine going to bed hungry every night or not having a comfortable home to sleep in that would protect you from the cold, heat, wind and rain.  Imagine not being able to go to school or to have access to radio, television, telephones and newspapers.  Imagine being sick and not being able to get the medicine you need or be able to see a doctor or go to a hospital.

1. Write out in your book the definition for extreme poverty.

  • A condition characterised by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information.

2. Draw a colourful picture in your books of childhood poverty.  Make sure you include pictures of all of the things a child goes without.

  • In the note.

A 2003 study found that more than 1 billion children around the world don’t have to imagine these conditions because they live under one or more of them everyday.  Unicef recognises poverty in children is when they lack the material, spiritual and emotional, resources they need to survive, develop and thrive.

3. Writing

Imagine you are a five year old child living in poverty. What is your life like? Describe your setting, your daily life, your hunger, your sorrow, your sadness and your health.  Describe one day as this child. Be sure to give your child a name and a country.  Write a descriptive reflection of this life on your blog.  Your title is ‘Poverty through the eyes of a child’.  This should be between 150 – 200 words in length.

Poverty is a lack of needs such as having enough food, education,  shelter, clean water, and health care to live a fulfilling life.

4.  Find a healthy diet pyramid on the internet.  Draw a picture of this in your book.  Under your picture, in one paragraph write down what people need to eat each day to be healthy.

  • In the note.

5.  What would you and your family eat each day.  Write a food journal from what you ate yesterday.  Create a table like this and fill it in about all of the food you ate and drinks you drank.

Time of day Food and drinks you consumed How much do you think each one cost in rupiah?
Breakfast  Rice, Kimchi and vegetables.  100000rp
Snack  Drinks, kind of bread and sweaty things.  100000rp
Lunch  Rice with spices  50000rp
Snack  Drinks, kind of bread and sweaty things.  100000rp
Dinner  Restaurant.  4~500000rp

6. Can you live below the poverty line?

More than 1.2 billion people a day live below the poverty line on lesson than $1.50 a day.  That figure (amount of money) is how the international community defines extreme poverty.  It’s a condition which doesn’t just mean hunger.  For children especially, it means malnutrition and being denied a healthy future.  Could you limit your spending every day so that all you can eat and drink each day only comes to $1.50 for five days?

Write down the following words and their meanings.  You can do this in your mother-tongue language if you like.

1.Unicef

2. Healthy diet pyramid
